On 7 November 2024, members of the EcoEcho project hosted a series of captivating lectures and a special food demonstration in Makarska. The event brought together visitors eager to delve into the rich history, culture, and biodiversity of the unique Biokovo landscape.
A key focus of the presentation was on experimental archaeology, a cornerstone of the EcoEcho initiative. Highlights included showcasing the outcomes of the May fieldwork, where ancient cooking techniques and traditional dietary practices were reconstructed. Attendees had the opportunity to learn how young pine shoots harvested in Biokovo were transformed into a traditional rakija aperitif, and how ancient recipes were adapted for modern tastes.
In addition to culinary demonstrations, the event celebrated the project’s broader achievements, from archaeological research to environmental preservation and educational outreach.
